Cookies Policy

Effective as of July 15, 2026. Explains how MedAlert uses cookies and similar technologies on medalert.ai and related services.

This Cookies Policy (“Policy”) explains how MedAlert (“MedAlert”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) uses cookies, browser local storage, and similar technologies when you visit medalert.ai, its marketing subdomains, or related web interfaces (together, the “Site”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

This Policy does not by itself govern clinical data that a clinic (“Customer”) uploads to the MedAlert platform. That processing is described primarily in the Privacy Policy and in Customer agreements. Here we focus on device-side storage technologies used when a visitor or Authorized User interacts with the Site.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files that a site may place on your browser or device. They help remember information across visits or during a session (for example, preferences or authentication state).

We also use or may use analogous technologies, including:

  • local storage / sessionStorage in the browser;
  • pixels or tags for measurement, when enabled; and
  • session identifiers managed by the server or hosting provider.

For convenience, this Policy refers to all of them as “cookies,” unless the distinction matters.

2. Who is responsible

For cookies on the MedAlert marketing Site and related interface preferences, MedAlert is the controller. When an Authorized User accesses a Customer’s workspace, session cookies or tokens needed for authentication and security may also apply; that processing is carried out to provide the Service to the Customer.

3. Categories of cookies we use

We classify cookies by purpose:

3.1 Strictly necessary

These are required for the Site to operate securely and reliably. They may include session mechanisms, load balancing, abuse prevention, CSRF protection, and continuity of an authenticated session. Without them, parts of the Site or application may not work. As a rule, they do not require prior consent when limited to what is strictly necessary to provide the requested service.

3.2 Preferences / functional

These remember choices you make in the interface. In particular, MedAlert may store your light/dark theme preference in browser local storage (key medalert-theme) to avoid theme flash and honor your choice on later visits. Language preference may be remembered via the Site path (/en/ or /) or equivalent mechanisms.

3.3 Analytics and performance

These may be used to understand, in aggregate, how the Site is used (pages viewed, errors, performance). Such tools are used only if MedAlert enables them and, where required by law, with consent or another appropriate legal basis. If they are not enabled, third-party analytics cookies will not be set through this channel.

3.4 Advertising and social media

MedAlert’s marketing Site is not designed to serve behavioral advertising to consumers or to sell browsing data for ad targeting. We do not intentionally use remarketing or personalized advertising cookies on the Site. If we later introduce limited B2B campaign pixels, we will update this Policy and, where required, obtain consent before enabling them.

4. Indicative inventory

The following describes the most relevant technologies you may encounter. Exact names, providers, and retention periods may change with technical updates; we will revise this Policy if material differences arise.

  • medalert-theme (local storage): stores light/dark theme preference. Purpose: interface preference. Duration: until you clear site data in the browser. First-party (MedAlert).
  • Session / authentication cookies or tokens (when you sign in): maintain the session, validate access, and help protect the account. Purpose: strictly necessary for the Service. Duration: session or the session expiry period. First-party or authorized infrastructure provider.
  • Hosting or CDN technical cookies (if applicable): security, routing, or abuse mitigation. Purpose: necessary / security. Duration: varies by provider.
  • Analytics tools (only if enabled): aggregate usage measurement. Purpose: analytics. Duration and provider: as specified for the specific tool and in an updated version of this Policy.

5. Legal bases

Depending on jurisdiction and category:

  • strictly necessary cookies: performance of the requested service and, where applicable, legitimate interests in Site security and integrity;
  • preference cookies you initiate (for example, choosing dark mode): performance of your request or balanced legitimate interests / consent, as required by applicable law;
  • analytics or other non-essential cookies: consent where required, or another valid basis we document when enabling them.

6. Recipients and transfers

Information generated by cookies may be processed by MedAlert and by providers that help operate the Site (hosting, security, analytics if enabled), under confidentiality and data-processing obligations. Such providers may be located outside your country of residence; where required, we apply the safeguards described in the Privacy Policy.

7. How to manage or disable cookies

You can control cookies in several ways:

  • Browser settings: most browsers let you block or delete cookies and, often, local storage. See the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, or your browser. Blocking essential cookies may prevent sign-in or Site functionality.
  • Theme preference: you can switch light/dark mode from the header control; to clear the stored preference, remove site data in your browser.
  • Browser signals: where a legally recognized automated opt-out signal applies (for example, “Do Not Track” or future equivalents), we will seek to honor it for non-essential cookies to the extent technically feasible.

If a Customer manages staff devices, it may impose additional browser or MDM policies that limit cookies; that is outside MedAlert’s control.

8. Personal data and privacy

To the extent cookies identify you or relate to an identifier, that information is personal data and is handled under the Privacy Policy, including any rights of access, correction, deletion, or objection that apply.

9. Retention

Session cookies usually expire when you close the browser or when the session ends. Preference storage remains until you delete it or it is no longer needed. Third-party cookie periods, if any are enabled, are governed by the relevant provider and will be disclosed when those tools are introduced.

10. Children

The marketing Site is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not intend to place cookies for the purpose of profiling children.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy by posting a revised version on this page and updating the effective date. If a change is material (for example, adding advertising or third-party analytics cookies), we will provide reasonable notice on the Site or by other appropriate means. We encourage you to review this document periodically.
